Birthdays

Birthdays are always exciting.  Every student will be able to celebrate their birthday during the school year.  Birthdays are celebrated on the child's actual birthday.  If a student has a birthday in the summer, then we will celebrate their half birthday.  For example, if your child's birthday is on June 15, then we will celebrate it on December 15.  Students are NOT permitted to bring in food to celebrate their birthday.  If your child would like they can bring in pencils, stickers, erasers, etc.  If you have any questions about how (or when) birthdays are celebrated, please contact me.

Volunteers

I would love to have parent volunteers any time you are available. If possible, please let me know what day and time you will be coming into volunteer.  Please be sure to update your parent volunteer records with the office staff.

You can also volunteer from home.  If you would like to volunteer from home please let me know.

I can also use copy parents.  If you are able to make copies for our class or grade level, please let me know.

Reading is Cool

Our class is participating in a reading program sponsored by the San Jose Sharks.  Each month students will get a reading log.  Students should write the title of the book and the number of minutes they have read on their reading log.  Reading logs are due on the last day of the month.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Homework/Thursday folders

Homework is VERY important.  It reinforces the skills the students have been working on in class.  Homework is assigned each night and needs to be completed and returned the next day.  Students also need to be reading for 20 minutes out of their Readers are Leaders book bag book.

On Thursday, students are sent home with an envelope that contains all their completed (and corrected) work and important notes from the school.  Please take time to go through the Thursday folder.  This folder should be returned empty on Friday.

Book Orders

I will be sending Scholastic book orders each month to encourage children to read for pleasure as well as learning.  If you would like to place an order please look the forms over and mark the books you would like to purchase and make the checks payable to Scholastic.  If you wish to use cash, please send the correct amount.  You can also place orders on online at: https://clubs.scholastic.com/home.  My teacher code is HPDMJ.

If you have any questions please let me know.
